MARITIME TRANSPORT CLUSTER PROJECT PARTNERS PRESENT RESULTS OF STUDY ON FUTURE MARITIME POLICY FOR NORTH SEA REGION AT SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT

MTC partners coordinated a successful dissemination event at the Scottish
Parliament (Holyrood) in Edinburgh on Wednesday 21st November. The Policy Paper “Maritime Transport and Future Policies - Perspectives from the North Sea Region”, offering a compilation of results generated by the North Sea Region Programme’s project Maritime Transport Cluster, was presented to an audience comprising the maritime industries, public bodies, Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSP’s) and research institutions.

Newsletter from e-harbours “From Show Cases to Business Cases”

The third issue of the e-harbours newsletter is now released. Besides updates from the different showcases of the e-harbours project you may also read about the e-harbours expert group on Smart Energy Networks that has produced an extensive analysis of the business cases that can make a Smart Grid profitable.

Joint forces for the benefit of the Baltic Sea- and North Sea Region; Co-operation of the transport clusters!

The Maritime Transport Cluster (MTC) of the North Sea Region bundled forces with the Baltic Sea Region Transport Cluster, called “BSR Transport Cluster for Sustainable, Multimodal & Green Transport Corridors”, which is part-financed by the European Union (ERDF).

Lunch debate with Members of the European Parliament realised by the Maritime Transport Cluster (MTC) in the European Parliament!

The Maritime Transport Cluster (MTC) had the pleasure to welcome Members of the European Parliament (MEP), members of the Commission (DG MOVE, DG MARE) as well as stakeholders of sector organisations (like ESPO, ICC North) to a lunch debate hosted by Mr Knut Fleckenstein (MEP). The event took place on 6th November 2012 in the European Parliament and was attended by 25 participants.

Presentation of the MTC Policy Paper at the Interferry Annual Conference

The MTC North Sea Region Policy Paper was presented by Edinburgh Napier University’s Professor Alfred Baird to the Interferry Conference in Dubai.

Interferry members include most of the world’s ferry operators, most of which are based in Europe.

Innovative new energy contract for Zaanstad

Building upon the knowledge of the energy market gained in the e-harbours project, the Municipality of Zaanstad has recently negotiated a new energy contract. The two-year contract not only lowers energy consumption and costs, but also maximizes the positive effects of the local Smart Grid.

Report highlights cruise lines’ port priorities - Cruise Gateway Midterm conference

A unique report into the way cruise lines choose which ports to include in their itineraries has been published by the European Union-funded project Cruise Gateway North Sea Region.

The report, compiled on behalf of Cruise Gateway by Hamburg consultancy firm SeaConsult, reveals some telling differences when it comes to the priorities named by cruise lines and the ports that handle cruise business.
